When in 2015 Mr. Leonard Nimoy, the actor who portraited Star Trek's Mr. Spock, died the composer felt a strong personal need to express his emotions in music. The result was this Op. 12 Requiem for Spock, composed for the Vulcan Lyrette (also called Vulcan Harp) and the Earth’s Violoncello (also simply called Cello). Due to the limited availability of the Vulcan Lyrette the composer included an alternative part for the Earth’s Harp. Duration: approx. 4:40

Biografie

Jeroen van Luiken-Bakker was born in IJmuiden (1981), the Netherlands, and was further raised in Heemskerk. As a young child he took, then, mandatory recorder lessons and later (electronic) keyboard lessons at the local Heemskerk School of Music. In 2001 Jeroen was diagnosed with dyslexia and in 2008 with Autism. Some of his double bass pieces have been performed by a group of bassists under direction of David Heyes and a piano version of his ‘Un petit dramatique pour orgue’ was used in the movie ‘The Voice that was Louder than Before’ by director Suzanne Steinberg. Jeroen, is besides being an aspiring composer, a poet, writer, translator, and publisher. ‘Op 12 Requiem for Spock’ is the composer’s second piece to be published as printed music at his own publishing company called Ahvô Braiths - now the De Wereld Leest foundation.
