String Quartet No.1 is the result of a hyper focus phase Jeroen had back in April of 2022 in which he composed the general outline of the entire work in a matter of days. String Quartet No. 1 separates itself from the main body of works by the composer up till this point, as it is composed in a far more ‘happier’ mood than is usual for him and it is a far more focused and structured work than most of his other works. To the composer, the music represents a garden full of flowers about to burst into blossom, with plenty of leisure about and fluttering birds.

'String Quartet No. 1' emerged from a period of intense hyperfocus in April 2022, during which Jeroen composed the general outline of the entire work within a matter of days. The quartet stands apart from much of the composer’s earlier output through its brighter atmosphere and more focused, structured approach. To the composer, the music evokes a garden on the verge of blossoming, filled with leisure, fluttering birds, and the promise of spring.

Biografie

Jeroen van Luiken-Bakker was born in IJmuiden, the Netherlands, in 1981 and was raised in Heemskerk. As a child, he took the then mandatory recorder lessons and later studied the (electronic) keyboard at the local Heemskerk School of Music. In 2001, Jeroen was diagnosed with dyslexia, followed by a diagnosis of autism in 2008. Several of his double bass works have been performed by a group of bassists under the direction of David Heyes. His piano piece 'Un petit mystique pour piano' was featured in the film 'The Voice that was Louder than Before' by director Suzanne Steinberg. Six miniature pieces for solo violin were recorded by Lea Tuuri. Besides being a composer, Jeroen is also a poet, writer, translator, and publisher.
